Hi, I’m Nate, career coach and HR professional with over 13 years of experience helping people progress their careers, land promotions, and secure their next role. This video is for financial analysts looking to craft a resume that opens doors.
TELL YOUR STORY AND SHOW IMPACT
Degrees and certifications are expected. What sets you apart is how you tell your story, demonstrate impact, and speak the recruiter and ATS language.
RESUME STRUCTURE
- Use a reverse chronological format.
- Lead with a Key Achievements section to front-load your biggest wins.
Example: “Increased project completion rate by 25% through effective project management.” - Core sections: Contact info, summary, achievements, experience, skills, education.
- Optional: languages, interests—only if they add value.
SHOWCASE HARD AND SOFT SKILLS
- Hard skills: modeling, forecasting, data analysis, BI dashboards. Show results, don’t just list.
Example: “Manage the development and execution of monthly forecast processes, reducing variance by 15%.” - Soft skills: leadership, stakeholder communication, cross-functional collaboration. Demonstrate with achievements.
Example: “Led forecasting efforts and analysis of potential responses presented to senior leadership.”
BUSTING COMMON MYTHS
- Myth 1: More is better. Focus on quality over quantity.
Example: “Developed and implemented financial models improving performance by 10%.” - Myth 2: Flashy design always wins. ATS focuses on structure and keywords. Design matters for recruiter appeal, but don’t overdo it.
