HOOK: THE EXECUTIVE RESUME PROBLEM
One habit that kills executive resumes is too much detail and no results. Let’s fix that in under three minutes.
INTRO: WHO THIS IS FOR
Hi, I’m Nate, career coach with 14 years in HR and talent strategy. I help executive directors and senior leaders turn their resumes into dream careers. This is for people aiming for executive-level roles or leadership that actually fits their purpose.
EXECUTIVE RESUMES = FIT + FUNCTION
At the executive level, fit matters as much as function. Don’t just list what you did. Show how you advanced the organisation’s purpose.
SHOW IMPACT, NOT TASK
Instead of duties, link your work to outcomes and mission.
Example: Advanced the organisation’s mission by securing multi-year partnerships aligned with sustainability goals, generating 2.5 million in funding over three years.
ALIGN YOUR RESUME TO THE ROLE
Read the job mission. Borrow one or two short phrases and weave them naturally into your summary so it feels written for that role.
BOARD AND GOVERNANCE LANGUAGE THAT WORKS
“Worked with the board” won’t cut it. Show scale and influence.
Example: Partnered with the board to deliver a five-year strategic plan, increasing community engagement by 40%.
TOOLS THAT SAVE TIME
Stop drowning in resume and cover letter versions. Enhancv isn’t just a resume builder. It has a job tracker so you know exactly what you sent, and it keeps the resume, cover letter, and job together.
MICRO ACTION: 60-SECOND KEYWORD SCAN
Set a one-minute timer.
Open a job ad.
Highlight five repeated keywords or phrases.
Place each keyword once in your summary or a single bullet, keeping it natural.
This fixes ATS blind spots and helps your resume speak the employer’s language.
THE HUMAN ELEMENT
Resumes get interviews, but people get jobs. Network, follow up, and bring curiosity to conversations. Your resume opens doors. Relationships walk you through them.
